It’s a simple thing….

It’s an act of kindness to a place - you see LIFE instead of a neglected space that has been abandoned for years.

It’s on a busy corner, with plenty of traffic passing by, school children going to and from lessons and locals who are heading into the town. I would guess that it is seen by maybe at least 100 people a day.

Each time I have added to the piece, I’ve had some interesting conversations, been bought beer and stopped the traffic!

Against a chorus of ‘Oh wow’, ‘I love this’, ‘Amazing’, that’s so cool’, there have been some more poignant conversations and people have cried. ‘ My Dad died last week and when I saw this word LIFE it made me think about him and I cried, I think this is beautiful’

The plastic plaits were made at a local community initiative Happy Mondays, working mostly with adults who are unable to work due to mental health or physical health challenges, we even got the support workers involved. LIFE is their work and they can tell their community to go and take a look.

‘My son is disabled and very lonely at home can I tell him about your Happy Mondays group’ Of course ‘ tell him to come along’ she cried - I didn’t know groups like this existed.’

Is this Urban Acupuncture?

This is the 2nd of our XID (Experience Improvement District) Ramsgate pilot www.ramsgreatxid.co.uk mini place interventions, next one coming up this week.
